Amresh Kumar on winning placements through Reflik.
Since 2018, Appian has built a staffing business across engineering, IT, healthcare, and light industrial staffing, backed by a recruitment team of nearly 90 people. But like most agencies, its growth had a ceiling: the endless hunt for clients. Business Development Manager Amresh Kumar spent most of every week chasing hiring managers — until Reflik changed the math. This year they have already landed six placements on the Reflik platform and started filling roles in manufacturing and human resources verticals, they’d never worked before. It’s proof that you can recruit outside your niche when the clients and the roles come to you.
The real cost of chasing clients
For most agencies, business development eats the hours meant for actual recruiting. Amresh knew the grind well: “60 to 70% of my time was spent reaching out to clients” LinkedIn outreach, cold emails, and building relationships from scratch. And it was only getting harder. Where he once booked 10 to 15 client calls a week, this year that fell to two or three.
A recruitment marketplace flips the model. Reflik brings the clients and the open roles; the agency focuses on candidates. “Half of my work is already done by Reflik,” Amresh says. “I don’t need to chase clients anymore — I have one platform where I can see the jobs, submit candidates, and hit the offers.”
Recruit outside your niche
Appian came in strong in engineering, IT, and light industrial roles. What surprised Amresh was where Reflik let the team win next.
“When we started with Reflik, I worked on manufacturing roles,” he says. Over time, that expanded into human resources too — verticals the agency hadn’t focused on before — and both turned into real placements. When the clients and roles are already on the platform, recruiting outside your niche stops being a gamble and becomes a natural extension of what your team already does well.
The intake calls make the jump easier. “They make it much easier for our team to understand the job description,” Amresh notes — context no job post can match, especially in an unfamiliar vertical.
Submit vetted candidates and earn
The other shift is what disappears. Working with Reflik, you do not have to worry about background checks and onboarding, so the agency’s job narrows to what it does best. “” Amresh says. This year his team closed six placements across contract and full-time roles, with stronger margins than the MSP platforms he’d used before.
Speed helps, too. With one client, Amresh submitted a candidate in the morning, watched the interview happen that same day, and saw the new hire start within a week. And because many Reflik clients work exclusively through the platform, there’s far less competition for each role.
What Amresh tells other recruiters
His advice for any agency still living on cold outreach is simple: give Reflik a try and lean on the account managers. “They’re very proactive. Once you give them a call, they respond immediately,” he says. The first habit he recommends to agencies just starting out is the weekly Tuesday account-management call, where you learn which roles need coverage right now.
“This will definitely be a success story for you as well,” he says.
